Description

Megaman VS. Metal Man!
from Capcom's Megaman 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment System

30"x30" Acrylic painting on sturdy edged-canvas.

Worked for over a few days on the composition of this piece alone, had gathered the sprites directly from the game and really went through a lot of different versions and compositions before choosing this one as the final.  At first the pixels were going to be a lot smaller prior to choosing this scene/composition, and I had planned on a lot more detail within the background of the painting to help show more of the Metal Man stage level art, to try and hold the feeling of the level.  Although in contemplation of the composition and art, I decided I had to not go that route because then it would have made Megaman and Metalman (the stars of the painting) a lot smaller and less important compared to the other art forms and masses in the composition.  So for this painting I cut out and moved around a few various metal man stage art sprites around the background, trying for awhile to get a neat looking composition that was clean on the eyes, but still fun to look at and holding a sort of Metal Man stage feel to it, with the gear systems and pistons, etc.  I also tried hard to give the feel and effect of the space enclosure that the boss fight of Metal Man is, by including two saw-blades into the painting, within the flight path of the actual projectiles themselves.

Have been working on this painting for awhile now, and actually went through quite a disaster with it during the phase of spray varnishing it for protection/finishing.  I had ran out of the normal spray varnish I used, and this time around bought a proclaimed even greater varnish that was more expensive.  And, like a durp, I didn't test the new product prior and I practically ruined the entire painting once applying the first coat of spray varnish.  -_-  So the piece was left with massive snow/milky white cloud looking masses across the canvas, leaving me practically in tears I was so upset.

Had been thinking of ways to fix it, tried wiping up as much of the varnish off the canvas as I could that day but really didn't get much off.  Even thought of mod-podging the entire canvas to hopefully just add an effect.  In the long run though, I decided to try and fix/repaint a majority of it.  Currently I'm in the process of repainting the black background to this piece which is near done than I will question wether or not some of the other color areas will need to be redone., depending on how it looks.   This photograph was taken from my phone prior to attempting the varnish finish.  Hopefully afterwards I can get a better picture to share with everyone, so I do apologize for the photograph being a bit out of focus and bad.

I do have to be honest though and say that after the issues with this painting, I had to take a mega.. break from it and the fixing process, and work on some other pieces before I went mad haha.  Fortunately I've done more than a handful of new paintings though in the meantime, so there was some relief!  ;D

Anyways, sorry for my ramblings though I really do appreciate you taking a moment to look at my artwork.  Hope you enjoy!
